Faith Over Works: The Foundation

Week 1 Day 1

Scripture:

“Once a religious leader asked Jesus this question: ‘Good Teacher, what should I do to inherit eternal life?’ ‘Why do you call me good?’ Jesus asked him. ‘Only God is truly good.’” — Luke 18:18–19 (NLT)

Reflection:
In a world where value is often measured by performance, it’s easy to fall into the trap of believing that good deeds will earn us heaven. But Jesus reminds us that only God is truly good. Our salvation isn’t a reward for good behavior — it’s a gift of grace through faith.
James’ teaching about “faith and works” isn’t about earning salvation; it’s about the evidence of a faith that’s alive. Works don’t save us, but saved people work — not for approval, but from gratitude.

Personal Challenge:
Ask yourself: Am I trying to earn God’s love, or am I living from it?
Spend time thanking Jesus today for His finished work on the cross — and let that gratitude fuel your service.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, thank You that my worth isn’t defined by what I do but by what You’ve done. Help me to live out my faith with actions that reflect Your love. Amen.
